Padstow People, Are You Recycling Right?

Do you know how much rubbish ends up in landfill that could potentially be recycled? Do you know how much stuff we put into recycle bins isn’t recyclable? As part of the Recycle Right Campaign being run by the Bankstown City Council, Padstow people and everyone from the surrounding suburbs of Padstow Heights, Revesby, Revesby Heights, Milperra, East Hills, Panania and Picnic Point are being encouraged to be more diligent with what they put into their recycle bins.

The slogan “Recycle Right because it’s the right thing to do!” is calling people to action because over the last 20 years that Council recycling services began, many households have slipped into lazy or bad habits with their recycling, making it difficult for council to effectively and efficiently recycle.

Understanding is the key, and to reduce contamination rates in yellow bins to below 10%, Bankstown City Council is doing what it can to make sure everyone knows what is recyclable and what isn’t. Part of the Recycle Right Campaign will see officers randomly inspecting residents’ yellow bins before collection and giving feedback as to how well they recycled. How would you rate do you think?

Contamination rates have been decreasing but ensuring your yellow bin only has acceptable materials in it will go a long way to helping Council and the environment. And your family will feel better for having done the right thing too.
